Aiki.com is the residual business of Aikido Today Magazine, Aikido's premier magazine for 19 years. Aikido Today Magazine was an international non-partisan magazine dedicated to opening the Aikido world. It began in 1987 and finished its run with the 100th issue covering July/ Aug 2005.

ATM is the brainchild of Susan Perry and Ronald Rubin a husband and wife team. Through their efforts Aikido students were able to see beyond the organizational structures and as a result many intra-organizational web pages and groups have formed to study Aikido's principles and applications. Central to ATM was the Calendar of Events where seminars and workshops were listed for free. This enabled students the choice of attending classes of teachers outside their own school and organization. Also, ATM was first to publish an annual Dojo Directory, which ran current information of dojos wishing to list. (Both of these services are continued here at aiki.com.)

Susan, through her many interviews over the past 19 years, gave an international voice to instructors around the world. She has interviewed many of the direct students of O-sensei (including O-sensei's son and grandson) as well as many of the next generation of Aikido teachers and leaders. Because of their position, these leaders are sometimes difficult to approach and so through published interviews their thoughts were made available to all Aikido students. (Many back issues are available, please see the magazine listing in the aiki.com shop to check out back issues.)

Ron and Susan are philosophy teachers; Susan quit her position with California State University to run ATM and Ron is still at work at the Claremont Colleges. Accordingly, they have enjoyed a practice they see as philosophic as well as physical. A result is that through ATM, they were active proponents of Aikido "off the mat" (for many years, ATM ran a successful column called "Aiki Extensions"); which extends Aikido's practice off the mat. They both founded and run Musubi Dojo, a full time Aikido dojo in Claremont California (across the porch from Aiki.com). Please visit.

Susan Perry and Ronald Rubin are also the creators of Arete Press, Musubi Dojo and Aiko Institute.

Note from Susan Perry,

Although aiki.com is devoid any editorial content right now, we hope that you will find our services and products to be of use. We are still dedicated to offering high quality service and products.

Right now getting the basic aiki.com services to work properly has taken most of my time. The advertising section is just getting up which we hope will support the efforts of many of you who offer wonderful products for aikido training. Once this work is up to speed, I will turn my attention to a more artistic and creative way of using aiki.com.

For 19 years I enjoyed bringing you Aikido Today Magazine. My husband Ron helped me even though he had a full time job teaching at a local college. We wanted to open people to the larger world of Aikido as we ourselves were learning about it. Aikido Today Magazine was great fun and dear to my heart. But it also was an extremely laborsome project for Ron and me. When it seemed that people were wise to the larger picture ( it's much easier with a tool like the internet) it seemed we could claim a success and relax a little bit. I have heard from many of you and appreciate your gratitude and appreciation of the offerings of ATM.

Without the tremendous work of publishing six magazines a year, I want to begin to create other products - products which are not as binding as ATM! So please visit us often to see what's new. If you'd like to say hello or make a suggestion, please email me here.
